One of the most popular arcade platforms in history, the Taito Type X2 was released in 1989. It was housed within the same cabinet as its predecessor, the Taito Type X, which was released two years prior to it. The backglass of this machine features a unique design that’s very similar to that of Data East’s Fantasy Zone II. The marquee on this machine is rather different than all others before it and is comprised entirely of letters and numbers marking various game titles. These titles are listed in alphabetical order, with each letter corresponding to a game that begins with that letter (e.g., "A" corresponds to Alien Syndrome). The lower right of the marquee features a small box that contains the words "NEXT GENERATION" outlined in blue, which is a result of a misprint on the original design. While not all of the games on this machine were created by Taito, several were made exclusively for it. These exclusive games include Alien Syndrome, Chase HQ II, Crack Down, Crime Fighters 2, Devil Fish GF Edition (also known as "UFO"), Monster Race 2 and World Grand Prix. Additionally, games from other classic arcade systems found their way onto Type X2 cabinets as well. These include Bubble Bobble, Bubble Bobble 2, Bubble Symphony, Chack’n Pop, Cosmic Avenger and New Zealand Story. The most popular of these was BurgerTime World Tour. Four other classic systems were later built into the Type X2 cabinet as well. These include Capcom's CP System II (known as the Capcom Play System in Japan), Data East's ND-System (known as the Data East Super System in Japan) and Taito’s own ZN-System (known as simply ZN in Japan). Both the CP System II and ND-System contained only 3 games each, while the ZN-System contained six titles. One of the most well known games on this machine is "Alien Syndrome" (known as "Space Hunter" in Japan). In this arcade classic, players must navigate a spaceship through a maze-like tunnel to escape from aliens trying to stop them. The alien spacecraft for this game was based on the spacecraft from the film Alien. The alien spaceship seen in the cabinet features a smooth, detailed design that distinguishes it above all others, and was made by Taito themselves, who dubbed it the “Golden Wing”. In August 2009, a famous Taito Type X2 called "Turbo" was found in Italy by some players who had been doing research on this machine for many years. They were finally able to find it after several calls with people who had some information on where it was located. The ZN version of this machine has some special features that were not found in any other versions, such as a marquee that can be tilted up and down using a lever located beneath the cabinet. The cost to remodel an existing Type X2 into the ZN version is estimated to be $4000, or $1000 more than it would cost for just the regular CP System II version.https://www.youtube. cfa1e77820
